Tokyo crime: Prostitution ring bust and hairstylist sentenced

Authorities in Tokyo have conducted separate criminal investigations involving sexual misconduct and illegal business operations.

In Shinjuku, Ryota Kasahara and three others were arrested for allegedly providing a residential apartment in Kabukicho as a venue for prostitution. The suspects reportedly operated a men's esthetic salon named ‘Bonnoji,’ which advertised services such as ‘15-minute training courses for 10,000 yen.’ The business is estimated to have generated approximately 80 million yen in revenue. Police are investigating whether illegal scouting groups were involved in facilitating the business.

In a separate case in Omotesando, a hairstylist identified as Fujii was sentenced to five years in prison for non-consensual sexual acts against six female clients. The court described the crimes as ‘persistent and malicious,’ noting that the defendant exploited the professional relationship and trust between a stylist and a customer. Despite paying 11.06 million yen in settlements to the victims, the court upheld the prison sentence.
