Tokyo hosts major summer festivals in late August
Tokyo will host several major annual summer festivals and cultural events during the final week of August 2026.
Key highlights include the Kōenji Awa Odori Festival, scheduled for August 29–30, which features approximately 10,000 dancers and musicians and expects up to 1 million spectators. The Asakusa Samba Carnival will take place on August 29, showcasing samba floats and dancers in a parade that typically attracts 50,000 people.
Additionally, the Harajuku Omotesando Super Yosakoi dance festival will run from August 29–30, featuring around 6,000 performers. Other local activities include the Tokyo Toy Show in Ariake and an anime music night in Shibuya.
