TollRo road taxation system causes disruptions for Romanian transporters
The new TollRo electronic road taxation system in Romania is causing significant disruptions for transport companies two weeks after its launch. Drivers and logistics firms report severe technical issues, including server congestion, GPS errors, and incomplete mapping data. These inaccuracies have forced heavy vehicles onto prohibited local routes or caused absurd detours exceeding 100 kilometers, leading to increased fuel costs and delivery delays.
Beyond navigation errors, the system has created an administrative burden. Unlike previous centralized billing, the current platform generates separate invoices for every individual trip, causing a massive influx of paperwork for accounting departments.
The National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration (CNAIR) has acknowledged these technical malfunctions and issued a derogation stating that fines will not be applied during periods when the system is unavailable. However, transporters warn that economic losses from delays and extra mileage are already substantial.
