Toluca and Toledo Launch Heritage Revitalization Initiatives

In Toluca, Mexico, Mayor Ricardo Moreno advanced the preservation of the city’s cultural legacy through the "Toluca y su Historia" conference series. The three‑part program highlighted the life of composer Guadalupe Olmedo, the local tradition of Charrería, and the impact of the Cristero conflict on the region, aiming to deepen residents’ connection to their historical identity.

In Toledo, Spain, Mayor Carlos Velázquez took part in the international webinar "Centros Históricos Habitables" held in Mexico, where he outlined the city’s strategies for revitalising its historic centre. Measures discussed included new housing projects in former unused buildings, a municipal ordinance to regulate tourist flows and improve quality of life, a tourism tax for operators, and the creation of the Office of Municipal Energy to supply clean energy to the historic district. Both initiatives seek to balance preservation with contemporary urban needs.
