Heritage and tourism initiatives in Mexico and Spain

Municipalities in Mexico and Spain have introduced various programs focused on cultural and natural heritage preservation and tourism.

In Toluca, Mexico, Mayor Ricardo Moreno launched the ‘Toluca y su Historia’ conference series to highlight local history, including the life of composer Guadalupe Olmedo and the impact of the Cristero conflict. Simultaneously, the Mayor of Toledo, Spain, participated in an international webinar to discuss urban revitalization strategies for the city’s historic center. These strategies include new housing projects, tourism flow regulations, a tourism tax, and the establishment of an Office of Municipal Energy to provide clean energy to the district.

In the province of Toledo, the Diputación de Toledo reactivated its ‘Paseos Naturales’ program, providing free guided walks through local landscapes to highlight flora, fauna, and geology. In Madrid, tourism guides have also promoted specialized walking routes through shaded environments to mitigate high temperatures while visiting historical sites.
