Tom Zé celebrates 90 years with São Paulo exhibition

Musician Tom Zé is celebrating his 90th birthday with an interactive exhibition titled ‘Tom Zé – 90 anos do Inquieto Jardineiro de Sons’ at Caixa Cultural in São Paulo. The exhibition, which runs until December 13, highlights his career as a key figure in the Tropicalismo movement.

Born in Irará, Bahia, in 1936, the artist became a central figure in Brazilian music after meeting contemporaries such as Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil in Salvador. His work is noted for its experimentation, utilizing unconventional sounds and instruments like the ‘buzinório,’ a device connecting multiple car horns.

Throughout his career, Zé has frequently drawn inspiration from daily life and the city of São Paulo, where he has lived for many years. He attributes his continued creativity and vitality to daily physical and mental wellness practices.
