Tomb Raider celebrates 30 years with upcoming Legacy of Atlantis release

The Tomb Raider franchise is celebrating its 30th anniversary following the original 1996 release by Core Design. Since its debut on platforms like Sega Saturn and PlayStation, the series has become a global cultural icon, with Lara Croft evolving from a low-polygon character into a highly detailed protagonist through decades of technological advancement.

To mark the milestone, developers Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog are preparing the release of ‘Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis’, scheduled for February 12, 2027. This new title is a reimagining of the original adventure, utilizing Unreal Engine 5 to modernize graphics and mechanics while maintaining the spirit of exploration. Developers estimate the gameplay experience will last between 14 and 16 hours, depending on the player's exploration style.

Other anniversary celebrations include a Lo-Fi music collection and the release of over 500 official soundtrack tracks on streaming services. The franchise continues to expand its reach through various media, including films and multiple game reboots.
