Tomb Raider 30th anniversary celebrations

Overview

The Tomb Raider franchise is marking its 30th anniversary through various media releases, commemorative projects, and collaborations. Announcements for the Nintendo Switch 2 include the ‘Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Collection’ via Limited Run Games and Aspyr. On October 22, 2026, ‘Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition’ arrived on the Nintendo Switch 2 as a “shadow drop” without prior announcement. This release, involving Aspyr and Crystal Dynamics, completes the Survivor trilogy on the new console alongside ‘Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition’ and ‘Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration’. The Definitive Edition includes the base game, all seven Challenge Tombs, downloadable content, online two-player cooperative mode, and all additional weapons, outfits, and skills. It requires approximately 21.7 GB of storage space. It is available individually or as part of the ‘Tomb Raider: Definitive Survivor Trilogy’ bundle, with a 10% discount on the Nintendo eShop through November 4, 2026. Further celebrations include a five-issue crossover comic miniseries between G.I. JOE and Tomb Raider by Skybound and Image Comics, a 4,355-piece Croft Manor construction set by Fanbrix, and the integration of Lara Croft into Ubisoft’s The Crew Motorfest. Other anniversary items include special-edition 8BitDo controllers, a hardcover book from Dark Horse, and a lo-fi music collection featuring over 500 official soundtrack tracks on streaming services. Looking ahead, developers Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog are working on ‘Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis,’ a complete reimagining of the 1996 original developed using Unreal Engine 5. Scheduled for release on February 12, 2027, the title will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. Developers estimate the gameplay experience will last between 14 and 16 hours.
