Tommaso da Celano cultural projects expand in Abruzzo

Cultural initiatives centered on Tommaso da Celano, the first biographer of Saint Francis of Assisi, are expanding in the Abruzzo region of Italy.

A new agreement between the Municipality of Celano, the Abruzzo Film Commission Foundation, and DNA S. r. l. aims to promote the film “Parola di Tommaso,” directed by Matteo Vanni. Following its presentation at the Venice International Film Festival, the film—already available on platforms like Amazon Prime Video—will seek broader international distribution and festival participation to promote the historical figure and the local territory.

Additionally, the recital “Tommaso racconta Tommaso” is scheduled for October 2026 in Trasacco and Celano. Part of the celebrations for the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi, the theatrical production uses research by Don Antonio Salone to offer new perspectives on the life of Tommaso da Celano.
