Tondela hosts emergency stabilization report meeting after July wildfires

The Emergency Stabilization Report (REE) regarding the wildfires that struck the region in early July was presented during a meeting in Tondela on August 12. Prepared by the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF), the document outlines urgent intervention priorities to stabilize and recover affected territories.

Key measures include soil stabilization, the protection of watercourses, and vegetation recovery. These actions aim to mitigate risks such as erosion and material runoff caused by the loss of vegetation cover, which could threaten local populations and infrastructure. The recovery process follows Decree-Law no. 82/2021.

The fires, which began in Vouzela on July 2, impacted the municipalities of Vouzela, Tondela, Oliveira de Frades, and Águeda, consuming approximately 13,000 hectares. In Tondela, the fire affected 1,500 hectares within the union of parishes of S. João do Monte and Mosteirinho. Implementation requires coordinated efforts between the ICNF, municipal authorities, and other responsible territorial entities.
