Overview
Following significant wildfires in the Viseu and Aveiro districts of Portugal, local and national authorities have initiated recovery and mitigation efforts.
In response to a major blaze that burned over 15,000 hectares, the Tondela City Council began collaborating with landscape-recovery specialists to draft a mitigation package. Subsequently, the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF) presented an Emergency Stabilization Report (REE) to outline urgent intervention priorities. The report emphasizes soil stabilization, the protection of watercourses, and vegetation recovery to mitigate risks of erosion and runoff that could threaten local infrastructure and populations. These recovery actions are being coordinated between the ICNF and municipal authorities.
