Tony D'Amico poised to become Roma sporting director, praised by ex-Verona chief Maurizio Setti

Former Hellas Verona president Maurizio Setti told Tele Radio Stereo 92.7 that Tony D'Amico is set to join AS Roma as sporting director. He recalled being the first to back D'Amico when he was head of scouting and later helped move him to Atalanta, emphasizing D'Amico’s ten years of experience in football operations.

Setti said D'Amico is a “behind‑the‑scenes” figure who shuns publicity, even noting he “smokes 50 cigarettes a day.” He warned that D'Amico “cannot do everything alone” and will need solid backing from the club’s ownership. According to Setti, Roma’s current managerial fragmentation could be remedied, and with the right appointments the side could become “a tough competitor” for the Serie A title.
