Tony Iommi reflects on final conversation with Ozzy Osbourne

Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi has reflected on the death of bandmate Ozzy Osbourne, noting that the loss has caused him to contemplate his own mortality.

Iommi recalled their final telephone conversation on July 21, 2025, during which Osbourne expressed feeling ‘absolutely shattered’ and ‘really tired.’ Osbourne passed away the following day, July 22, 2025, at age 76 due to cardiac arrest. He had previously been battling Parkinson's disease and coronary heart disease.

Osbourne's death occurred shortly after Black Sabbath performed a farewell concert at Villa Park in Birmingham. Iommi, who is 78, mentioned discussing these reflections on aging with Queen guitarist Brian May. Separately, Iommi is preparing to release a solo album, ‘From the Dark,’ on October 23.
