Tony Tornado to receive Tiradentes Medal and release new music video

The Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj) has approved the granting of the Tiradentes Medal to 96-year-old singer, actor, and activist Tony Tornado. Proposed by State Deputy Prof. Josemar, the honor recognizes Tornado’s influence in introducing soul music to Brazil and his history as a symbol of cultural resistance and anti-racist struggle.

In addition to this legislative recognition, Tornado recently performed at Rock in Rio alongside the band Jota Quest. The performance, which featured the Tim Maia classic ‘Sossego’ and included his son, Lincoln Tornado, will be released as a music video on the band’s official YouTube channel.
