Rijeka Archbishop condemns Torcida fans for Nazi and Ustaše chants
Rijeka Archbishop Mate Uzinić has issued a strong condemnation of members of the Torcida supporters' group following incidents in Split. During a march ahead of a Hajduk vs. Ajax match, certain individuals reportedly shouted antisemitic slogans and glorified Nazi and Ustaše regimes.
In a public statement, Uzinić emphasized that love for one's club should not be demonstrated through hatred of others. He warned that while the crimes and ideologies must be unequivocally condemned, the response should not devolve into new forms of hatred, calls for lynching, or the collective condemnation of all group members. He stressed the importance of distinguishing individuals from their actions and maintaining human dignity.
Separately, police authorities reported an arrest in Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina, involving a suspect linked to the Split incidents. The individual was apprehended by the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) following an Interpol warrant from Zagreb.
