Tornadoes and flash flooding strike Long Island and Delaware

A series of severe storms and tornadoes impacted the Northeastern United States on Thursday, causing property damage and significant flash flooding. In Atlantic Beach on Long Island, an EF-1 tornado that originated as a waterspout made landfall, damaging beach cabanas and shattering windows of approximately 30 vehicles.

In Delaware, a tornado was reported in Dover, with social media footage showing a motel roof being removed by high winds. While a state of emergency was lifted in Dover on Friday, cleanup efforts continue due to debris and blocked lanes.

Heavy rainfall also triggered widespread flash flooding across the region. In Jersey City, New Jersey, emergency crews rescued 69 people trapped in vehicles. In Queens, New York, flooding forced the closure of the Long Island Expressway in both directions. No serious injuries or fatalities have been reported.
