Tornadoes and severe storms cause destruction in Goulburn and Ulladulla
A mini-tornado with estimated winds of 110km/h caused significant destruction across the Goulburn district and the south coast on Saturday, October 3. In the Goulburn area, the storm uprooted at least 84 trees, damaged multiple houses, and collapsed a chimney through a roof on Rosemont Road. Local farmers assisted State Emergency Service (SES) and council crews in clearing debris from roadways.
In Ulladulla, a severe storm and tornado struck the central business district around 1pm, resulting in shattered windows and roofs being blown off properties. SES volunteers responded to more than 35 incidents in the area.
In response to the recent weather events, SES units in Nowra, St Georges Basin, and Ulladulla are hosting community open days on October 10. These events aim to provide residents with information on storm and flood preparedness through live demonstrations and equipment displays.
