Tornadoes and Severe Thunderstorms Ravage North Georgia

On the evening of June 22, the National Weather Service office in Peachtree City, Georgia issued multiple tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings across north and central Georgia. The first tornado warning was issued at 6:46 p.m. EDT for a storm rotating over Rocky Face near Dalton, covering Dalton and surrounding communities, and remained active until 7:30 p.m. A second tornado warning was released at 7:03 p.m. for the same system as it moved near Chatsworth, also expiring at 7:30 p.m.

At 7:09 p.m., a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for a storm over Hicks, with wind gusts up to 60 mph and potential roof, siding and tree damage. A broader warning followed at 7:42 p.m., covering nine counties—Towns, Lumpkin, Gilmer, Murray, Dawson, Gordon, Pickens, Union and Fannin—foreseeing wind gusts up to 60 mph and penny‑size hail. Residents were advised to seek shelter, avoid windows, and secure mobile homes.
