Torre Annunziata: 9 arrested in Gionta clan and IV Sistema conflict

Italian authorities have issued nine precautionary measures, including seven prison sentences and two house arrests, following an investigation into a violent conflict between the Gionta clan and the ‘IV Sistema’ group in Torre Annunziata.

The investigation, led by the Naples District Anti-Mafia Directorate and executed by the Naples Mobile Squad and the Torre Annunziata Police, stems from a major brawl that occurred in May 2025 at the Maximall Pompeii shopping center. Investigators describe the incident as a manifestation of a violent struggle for territorial supremacy between the established Gionta clan and the ‘IV Sistema’ group, which operates in the Penniniello district.

Beyond the initial brawl, the investigation uncovered a series of retaliatory actions and criminal activities intended to assert dominance over the area. Charges against the suspects include robbery, private violence, public intimidation with weapons, possession of firearms, and extortion, all aggravated by mafia-style methods.
