Torres del Paine National Park expels two Spanish tourists

Two Spanish tourists were expelled from Torres del Paine National Park in Chile after being caught smoking in a restricted area. The incident occurred on a Friday along the Isla de los Hielos trail in the Playa Grey sector.

According to the National Forestry Corporation (CONAF), the visitors had been previously warned about the prohibition of smoking and using heat sources in unauthorized areas. Despite these warnings, they proceeded to violate the regulations. Following the violation, park rangers activated established protocols, and the individuals were detained by the Carabineros. They have been placed at the disposal of the Local Prosecutor's Office in Puerto Natales.

John Revello, the regional director of CONAF, stated that these are the first tourists to be expelled during the 2026-2027 season for violating park regulations. The institution emphasized that continuous surveillance and patrols will be maintained to prevent forest fires and protect the ecosystem.
