Total Solar Eclipse on August 12, 2026 Visible Across Europe and North Africa

A total solar eclipse will occur on Wednesday, 12 August 2026. The path of totality will begin over the Arctic Ocean, cross northern Greenland and Iceland, and make landfall in northern Spain, offering a brief period of complete darkness in those locations. Outside the narrow path, a partial eclipse will be visible across much of Europe, Africa and North America.

In Tunisia the eclipse will be observable as a partial event at sunset, with up to 59 % of the solar disc obscured. The City of Science in Tunis has scheduled an observation program at Sidi Mechreg, Bizerte, including telescopic viewing with solar filters, a scientific conference, and a public astronomy session. Authorities stress the use of certified eclipse glasses or proper solar filters to prevent eye injury.

Local governments in Spain and Iceland are preparing for an influx of tourists attracted by the rare astronomical phenomenon, advising early booking of accommodation and transport due to limited capacity in remote regions.
