Solar eclipse to cross Europe and Northern Hemisphere on August 12

A total solar eclipse will occur on August 12, presenting a major astronomical spectacle across parts of Europe and the Northern Hemisphere. The path of totality, where the moon completely covers the sun, will pass through northern Russia, Greenland, and Iceland, before moving across the Atlantic Ocean to the Iberian Peninsula.

In Spain and parts of northeastern Portugal, observers will experience a total eclipse, though the duration of totality will be relatively short, lasting approximately one minute and 44 seconds in areas like Burgos. Other regions, including much of Europe, Canada, the northern United States, and northwest Africa, will observe a partial solar eclipse.

The European Space Agency (ESA) is set to host a live broadcast of the event, including educational programming and footage from León, Spain. Observers are cautioned to use specialized eclipse glasses or safe projection methods to prevent permanent eye damage when viewing the sun.
