TotalEnergies sells European rooftop solar assets to focus on utility‑scale renewables

French energy group TotalEnergies completed the divestment of 170 MW of rooftop and small‑scale solar projects in seven European countries – France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, the United Kingdom and Luxembourg – to specialist operators Amarenco and AMPYR Distributed Energy. The sale, announced in July 2026, is intended to free capital and management bandwidth for larger utility‑scale solar and wind farms, which the company says deliver lower levelised costs and stronger returns. TotalEnergies added 8 GW of gross renewable capacity in the twelve months to March 2026, bringing its total to 35 GW, and reaffirmed its target of exceeding 75 GW of renewable capacity by 2030. Amarenco and AMPYR will continue to operate the transferred assets, positioning themselves to aggregate and monetize distributed‑generation sites. The transaction reflects a broader industry shift, with major utilities concentrating on gigawatt‑scale projects while niche players target the fragmented rooftop market.
