TotalEnergies 2026 renewable portfolio moves

Entities: Shell · European Union · Stéphane Michel · TotalEnergies · Netherlands

Overview

In July 2026 TotalEnergies completed an €86.4 million share buy‑back and sold 170 MW of rooftop solar projects, freeing capital for larger utility‑scale renewables. By the twelve months to March 2026 the group added 8 GW of gross renewable capacity, reaching 35 GW.

In August 2026 the company announced the acquisition of Shell’s on‑shore renewable assets in Europe – about 500 MW of operating or under‑construction solar and wind projects, mainly in Italy and the Netherlands, plus a development pipeline of roughly 3.5 GW across Italy, the United Kingdom and Spain. Simultaneously it agreed to sell a 50 % stake in a 1.2 GW portfolio in Germany, Spain, France and Poland to KKR for €1.8 billion. On 2 August 2026 TotalEnergies confirmed that both transactions remain subject to regulatory approval and are still expected to close by year‑end, with the Shell deal’s financial terms undisclosed. After completion, TotalEnergies’ European on‑shore renewable capacity is projected to be about 9‑10 GW installed or under construction, with a pipeline of roughly 27 GW.
