Flood mitigation projects launched in Touba (Senegal) and M'Bahiakro (Côte d'Ivoire)

In Touba, Senegal, authorities and workers are racing to complete anti‑flood works before the annual Magal pilgrimage in August. Projects include a large retention basin at Nguiranene, new drainage pipelines in Darou Rahmane, and other sites such as Mboussobé, Kawsara Fall and Feto. Residents expressed both hope and anxiety about the progress, noting past floods that isolated neighborhoods.

In M'Bahiakro, Côte d'Ivoire, the municipal council, led by Mayor Diamala Kouassi Raphaël, has begun extensive drainage and cleaning works to prevent recurrent flooding. Heavy equipment is being used to clear canals, lay paving stones, and improve water flow, particularly in the Lycée district, which channels most runoff from the town center. The projects are part of a three‑year program aimed at improving sanitation and the town’s appearance.
