Touhou Koumakyou: New Classic remake set for September 10 release

Shanghai Alice Reprise has announced that the upcoming release of ‘Touhou Koumakyou: New Classic – the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil’ will include the ‘Classic’ version as a separate application. While the New Classic version is the primary purchase, it will include the Classic version for free. The Classic version aims to replicate the original 2002 experience as closely as possible.

The New Classic remake features high-resolution 1080p support, new ‘Challenge Mode’ with infinite lives, improved hit detection visibility, and a full BGM arrangement by the original creator, ZUN. This project was made possible following technical analysis by the circle ‘AQUA STYLE’ to address compatibility issues with the original source code on modern Windows systems.

The game is scheduled for release on September 10 across PC (Steam), PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. Pricing is set at 1,990 yen for the standard edition and 2,966 yen for the deluxe edition, which includes a sound player app or digital soundtrack.
