Tour de France 2026 route unveiled with key decisive stages

The 2026 Tour de France will commence in Barcelona with a 19‑kilometre team time trial that is expected to show the power of squads such as UAE Team Emirates, Visma, Lidl‑Trek and INEOS Grenadiers. Stage 2 ends on Montjuïc, favouring explosive riders, while stage 3 to Les Angles provides the first serious test for the general classification.

According to journalist Javier Ares, the first major selection will occur on stage 6 (Pau → Gavarnie) featuring the Aspin and the Tourmalet climbs. The second week raises difficulty in the Vosges, highlighted by the Ballon d’Alsace and the Plateau de Solaison, a 4,000‑metre mountain stage. The decisive final week includes an Alpine triptych, a time trial from Veyrier to Thonon‑les‑Bains, and the iconic queen stage 20 with 5,500 metres of climbing over the Télégraphe, Galibier, Sarenne and Alpe d’Huez. The traditional Montmartre climb is retained for the final stage.
