Tour de France Femmes 2026 eyes Ventoux route change over fire risk
The 2026 Tour de France Femmes begins on 1 August in Lausanne, Switzerland and runs for nine days over 1,175 km with 18,795 m of climbing, the longest edition to date. It will feature the first ever summit finish on Mont Ventoux on 7 August (stage 7) and conclude on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, with traffic and parking restrictions in Nice on 8‑9 August.
The Vaucluse prefecture has asked the organisers to consider an alternative route for the Ventoux stage because of heightened wildfire risk. Tour director Marion Rousse said the race will adapt, keeping the climb but may change the route if the fire danger is deemed extreme. Organisers are monitoring the situation and will decide early in the week.
Defending champion Pauline Ferrand‑Prévot missed the pre‑race press conference. Main rivals include Demi Vollering, Kasia Niewiadoma, and world‑time‑trial champion Marlen Reusser. Stage 4 is a 21‑km individual time trial from Gevrey‑Chambertin to Dijon. A total of 147 riders from 21 teams will contest the race, which is expected to draw record TV audiences.
