Tour de France stages in Catalonia trigger traffic closures and police deployment

The opening stages of the Tour de France will cross Catalonia from July 4‑6, passing through Barcelona, Tarragona and Granollers. A security operation will involve around 4,500 police officers, including 3,800 Mossos d'Esquadra and local forces, to secure the race and the public. Major roadways such as the N‑340, C‑31, C‑59, C‑17 and the A‑7 will face traffic stoppages lasting four to five hours, with public transport reinforced and tolls on the C‑32 south lifted. Regional officials estimate the event will generate an economic impact exceeding €100 million.

In the coastal town of Torredembarra, local authorities have prepared a specific mobility plan for the second stage on July 5, when the race will traverse the N‑340 between 08:00 and 15:00. The route will be closed through the Marítima Residencial Nord and Sud urbanisations, with detours via the AP‑7 and designated parking zones offering over 3,000 public spaces. Police advise spectators to keep a one‑metre distance from cyclists, avoid the road, and respect safety instructions. The operation aims to minimise disruption for residents while ensuring a safe environment for the race and its supporters.
