Tour de France stages prompt major traffic disruptions in Tarragona and Barcelona

Tarragona is preparing for the second stage of the Tour de France on July 5, expecting between 60,000 and 80,000 spectators. The city will deploy over one hundred urban guard officers, Mossos d'Esquadra, 38 cleaning staff and 400 volunteers. Free city buses, portable toilets, drinking fountains, special bicycle parking, six climate‑refuge coaches and QR‑code maps for citizens are planned. Parking restrictions will begin on July 2 and last until the evening of July 5, with up to 12,000 extra spaces created in dispersal car parks.

In Barcelona, road closures and traffic restrictions are scheduled for July 2, 4 and 5 as the Grand Départ proceeds through the city. The first set of closures affects the Sagrada Família area on July 2, followed by a time‑trial route between the Forum and Montjuïc on July 4, and the second stage entry on July 5. Hundreds of streets in the Eixample, Sant Martí and Sants‑Montjuïc districts will be blocked, parking prohibited and bus routes diverted. Authorities urge residents and visitors to use the metro and avoid private vehicles during the affected periods.
