Tour of Britain Women 2026 begins in the Lake District

The 2026 Tour of Britain Women begins this Wednesday in Cockermouth, marking the final WorldTour stage race in Europe for the year. The five-stage race travels from the Lake District through North Wales and mid-Wales, concluding in Leamington Spa.

Following a move from May to August, the event serves as a key preparation block for the September World Championships. The route is designed to favor powerful all-rounders and fast finishers capable of navigating hilly terrain and explosive climbs.

Lotte Kopecky is noted as a top contender for the general classification, with challengers including defending champion Ally Wollaston, Kim Le Court-Pienaar, Pfeiffer Georgi, and Karlijn Swinkels. In the sprint battles, Lorena Wiebes is the primary benchmark, facing competition from Chiara Consonni and Zoe Bäckstedt.

Four domestic Continental teams—DAS-Hutchinson, Handsling Abla, O’Shea Red Chilli Bikes, and Smurfit Westrock—will participate following a UCI rule amendment that allows their inclusion.
