Tour of Britain Women faces safety concerns and race delays

The Tour of Britain Women has faced multiple disruptions and safety concerns. During Stage 2, the race was neutralized for approximately half an hour due to a motor accident on the route ahead of the peloton. While no riders were involved in the collision, the stoppage forced riders to wait in cold, rainy conditions.

Separately, Australian cyclist Maeve Plouffe raised alarms regarding rider safety after revealing she was nearly struck by a member of the general public on a roundabout during the opening stage. Plouffe, who subsequently withdrew from the race following a puncture, noted that the incident occurred while she was attempting to chase back to the peloton.

These concerns follow the recent death of 19-year-old British rider Finlay Tarling at the Volta a Portugal, who was killed after being struck by a vehicle that entered the course. In response to Plouffe’s account, Jonathan Day, events director of British Cycling Ventures, stated that organizers are taking the matter seriously and are reviewing safety procedures, emphasizing that rider safety remains a priority.

On the competitive side, Dutch rider Lorena Wiebes has maintained her lead, winning the rain-affected second stage.
