Tourism drives population and hotel growth in Catalonia

Tourism and seasonal activity are driving significant demographic and economic shifts in Catalonia. In the Pallars region, towns such as Rialp, Esterri d'Àneu, and Sort are experiencing a notable increase in seasonal population. In certain periods, the floating population in these areas can exceed 50% of the registered residents, driven by adventure sports and second residences.

On a broader scale, Catalan hotels recorded nearly 2.7 million travelers in July, a 3.1% increase compared to the previous year. This makes Catalonia the second most preferred autonomous community for foreign tourists in Spain, trailing only the Balearic Islands. While visitor numbers have risen, particularly in Barcelona, which saw a 4.6% increase in hotel guests, the average length of stay has slightly decreased, with an average of approximately three nights per visitor.
