Tourists die in separate incidents on Crete

Two separate incidents involving foreign tourists have resulted in fatalities on the island of Crete.

A 36-year-old Turkish national died after being pulled unconscious from the sea at Stalida Beach. According to the Hersonissos Port Authority, a local lifeguard provided initial first aid before the man was transported by ambulance to the University Hospital of Heraklion, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities have ordered an autopsy and are conducting a preliminary investigation into the circumstances of the drowning.

In a separate incident, a 41-year-old French woman died after collapsing during a hike near Balos in western Crete. Emergency services reported that the woman was hiking through rugged terrain in extreme heat when she became unwell and lost consciousness. While reports suggest severe dehydration and cardiac arrest as contributing factors, a forensic examination is expected to determine the exact cause of death. The Hellenic Fire Service conducted a rescue operation to reach the woman after she was found unconscious on the trail.
