Townsville Correctional Centre drone drug drop investigation leads to charges

A 47-year-old man has been charged following an investigation into a drone discovered inside the Townsville Correctional Centre in northern Queensland. The drone, which was located by correctional officers in May, was allegedly carrying a package containing illicit drugs and various utensils with an estimated street value of $1 million.

The package reportedly contained methylamphetamine, GBL, a variety of prescription drugs, syringes, a glass pipe, a mobile phone, and a SIM card. The charges against the man include five counts of supplying dangerous drugs into a correctional facility, drug trafficking, dealing with prohibited items in a prison, supplying medication, and drone-related offences.

Law enforcement officials stated that the charges are the result of coordinated intelligence-led investigations involving the Corrective Services Investigation Unit and detectives from Townsville and Bundaberg. The man is expected to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court to face the charges.
