Toyama Prefecture expands flood relief aid for Himi residents
Following heavy rains on August 27, 2026, that caused significant damage in Himi, Toyama Prefecture, local authorities are expanding relief efforts. Governor Nitta announced plans to expand the eligibility for governor's condolence money to include all households that experienced above-floor flooding. This follows previous decisions to provide 100,000 yen to totally destroyed homes and 50,000 yen to partially destroyed homes. The prefecture is also considering a unique life reconstruction support fund for affected households.
In response to the disaster, which impacted over 600 homes through flooding and landslides, the Inazawa City Social Welfare Council is organizing volunteer support. The council is recruiting additional participants for a disaster volunteer bus scheduled to travel to Himi on September 19 to assist with tasks such as removing sediment from residential areas and cleaning gutters.
