Toyota and Hyundai rally teams cite travel restrictions for Saudi Arabia rally

Toyota Gazoo Racing and Hyundai Motorsport have notified the FIA that they may be unable to participate in the season-ending World Rally Championship (WRC) event scheduled for November in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The two manufacturers cited internal corporate travel restrictions regarding the Middle East as the primary reason for their potential absence.

Toyota Gazoo Racing stated that its members must adhere to regulations set by the Toyota Motor Corporation, which currently prohibits travel to the region. These policies are reportedly reviewed weekly by the Japanese headquarters. Hyundai described a similar situation, noting that professional travel restrictions for the Middle East are subject to daily evaluation and constant change.

M-Sport has also expressed alignment with these concerns, though its position remains slightly more flexible, noting they follow foreign ministry recommendations. The FIA is currently working with championship promoters to find a solution. A decision is expected by mid-September to allow for necessary logistical planning.
