Hyundai and Toyota WRC participation uncertainty

Overview

Hyundai Motor Company is evaluating its future in the World Rally Championship (WRC) as it considers whether to remain a factory constructor, transition to a privateer model, or withdraw from the championship entirely. While the team is working on an evolution of the i20 N Rally2 to meet upcoming regulations, driver Adrien Fourmaux has expressed concern regarding seat security for 2027.

Adding to the team's challenges, Hyundai Motorsport and Toyota Gazoo Racing have notified the FIA that they may be unable to participate in the season-ending WRC event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, this November. Both manufacturers cited internal corporate travel restrictions regarding the Middle East as the primary obstacle. Hyundai noted that professional travel restrictions for the region are subject to “daily evaluation and constant change.” The FIA is currently working with promoters to find a solution, with a decision expected by mid-September.
