Toyota Corolla faces new competition from BYD in Brazil
The Brazilian mid-size sedan market is experiencing a shift in dynamics between established legacy models and new electrified competitors. The Toyota Corolla, a long-standing benchmark in the region, maintains a significant historical presence. Collectors continue to value classic iterations, such as the 1994 Corolla LE, which is noted for its robust build, 1.8L engine, and high preservation status.
Contrasting this legacy is the emergence of Chinese manufacturer BYD, which is challenging the dominance of models like the Corolla and Honda Civic with the BYD King GS. As a plug-in hybrid, the King GS offers 235 combined horsepower and a 0-100 km/h acceleration of 7.3 seconds. The vehicle aims to redefine consumer expectations in the segment by integrating electric driving capabilities into the traditional sedan format, focusing on interior space and modern driving technology.
