Toyota delays production of the 2027 electric Highlander SUV
Toyota announced that the start of production for the 2027 Highlander, its first fully electric SUV to carry the long‑standing model name, will be postponed by at least eight weeks. The vehicle had been scheduled to reach dealerships by the end of 2026, but the company said the delay will allow final refinements before market launch. Existing 2026 Highlander models, which are gasoline or hybrid, will continue to be built through December 2026 and remain available in dealer inventories throughout 2027. The postponement also aligns with upcoming releases of related models, including the Lexus TZ luxury variant and Subaru’s electric SUV built on the same platform, both expected by late 2026.
