Toyota Fortuner next-generation prototypes spotted testing in Thailand

Toyota Motor is testing heavily camouflaged prototypes of the next-generation Toyota Fortuner in Thailand. The upcoming seven-seat SUV is expected to undergo a major redesign to address slipping popularity in several regional markets.

Spy photographs reveal significant stylistic shifts, including a more aggressive front end with a larger, more upright grille and slimmer LED lighting. The rear architecture appears to be evolving, with recent sightings showing lighting elements that resemble production-spec taillights rather than temporary fixtures.

Technically, the new Fortuner is expected to utilize an updated version of the IMV ladder-frame chassis shared with the Toyota Hilux. This platform may offer increased flexibility for various powertrains, including traditional diesel and petrol engines, as well as hybrid or electrified options. The inclusion of radar and windshield-mounted cameras suggests the integration of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).

While Toyota has not officially confirmed a launch timeline, industry reports suggest the vehicle could debut in the Indian market as early as 2027. Interior upgrades are anticipated, potentially featuring digital instrument clusters, larger infotainment screens, and improved third-row seating configurations.
