Toyota's motorsport division, Gazoo Racing, has launched the GR Kart in Japan, an entry-level racing kart designed to make motorsports more accessible to children and families. Priced at 385,000 yen (approximately $2,500), the vehicle aims to lower the traditional barriers of cost, transportation, and maintenance.

Engineered with Toyota's manufacturing expertise, the 83kg kart features a 215cc four-stroke engine and a belt-drive system with an automatic tensioner to simplify upkeep. A key design innovation allows the kart to be stored upright without draining fuel or oil, thanks to a specialized diaphragm carburetor and oil catch tank. Its compact dimensions enable it to be transported inside mid-sized minivans, such as the Toyota Noah or Voxy, without disassembly.

The GR Kart is highly adjustable, featuring a sliding pedal mechanism and tiltable steering to accommodate drivers ranging from 135cm to 185cm in height. This allows families to share a single vehicle. Toyota also provides a dedicated mobile app to assist with technical setup and driving guidance. The kart is intended strictly for use on closed tracks and is not street-legal. Sales are being conducted through GR Garage locations and various karting tracks across Japan.
