Toyota GR KART launch and racing participation
Overview
Toyota’s motorsports brand, GAZOO Racing, launched the GR KART, an entry-level racing kart designed to increase accessibility for families and children in Japan. The vehicle, priced at 385,000 yen, features a 215cc engine and adjustable components to accommodate drivers between 135 cm and 185 cm in height.
Engineered to lower barriers regarding cost, maintenance, and transportation, the 83kg kart utilizes a belt-drive system with an automatic tensioner. A specialized diaphragm carburetor and oil catch tank allow the vehicle to be stored upright without draining fluids. Its compact design is intended to allow transport inside mid-sized minivans, such as the Toyota Noah or Voxy, without requiring disassembly. Toyota also provides a dedicated mobile app for technical setup and driving guidance. The kart is strictly for closed-track use and is not street-legal.
Following the launch, twelve of these karts are scheduled to participate in the A1 City Grand Prix GOTSU 2026. This street race will take place on December 13, 2026, in Gotsu City, Shimane Prefecture, as part of the 52 Future Project 2026, aiming to connect motorsports with local community revitalization.
