Toyota Highlander and Nissan Elgrand launch in Japan as three‑row SUVs

Toyota began importing its US‑built Highlander to Japan under the new U.S. vehicle certification system. Sales start nationwide on 1 August 2026 with a price of ¥8.6 million. The Limited ZR Hybrid model features three rows of seating, a 2.5‑L hybrid powertrain, e‑Four AWD, and a spacious 870‑liter cargo area. Nissan unveiled the fourth‑generation Elgrand on 16 July 2026, opening pre‑orders ahead of the July sales start. The new model is priced between ¥6.897 million and ¥8.698 million and employs a third‑generation e‑POWER hybrid system with 1.5‑L generator‑engine and 5‑in‑1 powertrain. It offers a 14.3‑inch infotainment display, premium audio, and advanced ProPILOT driver‑assist features. Dealers report strong demand, with order backlogs of four to five months.
