Toyota India intensifies hybrid campaign following MG Hector Tomahawk launch

Toyota India has intensified its marketing efforts for self-charging hybrid technology following the launch of the MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV by JSW MG Motor India. Toyota’s campaign emphasizes its three-decade hybrid legacy and the convenience of its self-charging systems, which do not require external plugging.

The two vehicles represent different electrification philosophies. The MG Hector Tomahawk is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) featuring a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 20.5 kWh battery pack, offering DC fast charging and a claimed range of over 1,100 km. In contrast, Toyota’s lineup, including the Innova Hycross, focuses on strong-hybrid technology.

In terms of market positioning, the MG Hector Tomahawk ‘Essence’ trim is priced at ₹27.79 lakh, making it approximately ₹4.05 lakh more affordable than the Toyota Innova Hycross Hybrid ZX (O), which is priced at roughly ₹31.84 lakh. While the MG offers more advanced cabin technology and a larger infotainment screen, the Toyota Innova Hycross provides larger dimensions and a superior boot capacity. Both vehicles include standard safety features such as six airbags and Level-2 ADAS, though the Toyota holds a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating.
