Toyota invests $3.6 billion to expand San Antonio plant, moving Tacoma trucks to Texas

Toyota Motor North America announced a $3.6 billion investment to add a second vehicle assembly line at its San Antonio campus. The expansion will double the plant’s size to about 2.5 million square feet by 2030, create roughly 2,000 new jobs, and shift production of the midsize Tacoma pickup from the older Baja California facility in Mexico to Texas over a four‑year period. The move does not affect the newer Guanajuato plant, which will continue building Tacomas. The project brings Toyota’s total spending in San Antonio to $8.3 billion since 2003 and is supported by an incentive package of at least $303 million from the state of Texas, Bexar County and the City of San Antonio.

The new line will sit alongside existing production of the Tundra pickup and Sequoia SUV, and will incorporate advanced manufacturing technologies to increase flexibility and rear‑axle production capacity.
