Toyota Land Cruiser FJ sees surge in Japanese sales
The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ has emerged as a dominant model in the Japanese automotive market following its release on May 14, 2026. Between June and September 2026, the FJ recorded approximately 15,320 registrations, surpassing the combined total of the Land Cruiser 250, 300, and 70 models during the same period.
Accounting for roughly 52% of all Land Cruiser series registrations from June to September, the FJ's performance has significantly exceeded Toyota's initial monthly sales target of 1,300 units. For instance, June saw 4,870 registrations, nearly 3.7 times the projected amount.
The FJ is a compact, ladder-frame SUV produced at Toyota Motor Thailand's Ban Pho plant. It features a 2.7L four-cylinder gasoline engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and part-time 4WD. Despite its smaller dimensions compared to its larger counterparts, it retains off-road capabilities such as downhill assist and an electronic rear differential lock. The model is currently available in a single grade, the VX, priced at 4,500,100 yen.
