Toyota announced the 2027 Crown for the North American market, fitting it with the fifth‑generation Toyota Hybrid System (THS 5). The update adds a 2.5‑L gasoline engine paired with front‑and‑rear electric motors, standard all‑wheel drive on most trims, and a more advanced e‑CVT. A performance‑focused Platinum version retains the 2.4‑L turbo‑charged Hybrid Max unit, delivering 340 hp and a six‑speed automatic. In Japan, Toyota continues to sell the flagship Crown Sedan, a luxury four‑door that measures over 5 m in length, offers both hybrid (2.5 L engine with 136 kW output) and fuel‑cell variants (up to 820 km range), and is equipped with the latest Toyota Safety Sense suite. The sedan is priced between ¥7.3 million and ¥8.5 million, appealing to senior executive and chauffeur‑car customers.

The launch positions the Crown as a premium hybrid sedan aimed at competing with large luxury models in both the United States and domestic Japanese markets.
