Toyota launches 2027 Crown sedan with new hybrid system

Toyota Motor Corp unveiled the 2027 Crown, its flagship sedan, at a U.S. launch event. The model receives a major technical refresh, featuring the fifth‑generation Toyota Hybrid System (THS 5) on the XLE, Limited and Nightshade trims, while the top‑of‑the‑range Platinum adds a 340 hp Hybrid MAX powertrain.

Design updates include a reshaped rear bumper, new black‑roof accents, and additional paint options such as Oxygen White, Heavy Metal and Finish Line Red. Interior upgrades feature dual 12.3‑inch digital displays, a 10‑inch head‑up display, electric steering‑column adjustments and an electric tailgate. Toyota projects fuel consumption of about 5.9 L/100 km. In the United States the Crown will start at roughly $41,600–$42,800, positioning it between traditional sedans and SUVs.

The launch highlights Toyota’s push to expand hybrid offerings across its global lineup, targeting customers who want a higher seating position without opting for an SUV.
