Ford and Geely to build new electric SUV in Spain

Ford and Geely are deepening their collaboration through the production of a new electrified compact SUV in Europe. The vehicle will be built at the Almussafes plant in Valencia, Spain, using Geely’s Global Intelligent Electric Architecture (GEA), which supports both fully electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

The project is supported by a joint venture at the Valencia site, where Geely subsidiary Centurion Industries will invest 221 million euros to acquire a 34% stake. This investment aims to mitigate development risks for new production lines. The plant is expected to produce Geely models, such as the EX5, starting in 2028, alongside the Ford SUV planned for 2029.

This strategic move allows Geely to expand its European manufacturing footprint and mitigate the impact of potential tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles. For Ford, the partnership provides a critical electrified architecture as the company transitions its European lineup.
